Millcreek Canyon is a densely forested canyon located in the Wasatch Mountains on the east side of the Salt Lake Valley. The top half is closed to vehicle traffic from November 1 to July 1. July through August will experience high temperatures and wildflowers in bloom creating the perfect background for an elopement. Above the fee station lies a massive limestone ridge covered in oceanic fossils including shells and coral from the Triassic period. The best time to visit would be during sunrise and sunset to avoid the heat. As with the various canyons located in Utah, Millcreek Canyon trees will experience changes to their leaves coloration during the fall. This scenic canyon offers year-round activities including:
● Hiking, biking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, backcountry camping, picnicking, golfing, and wildlife/bird watching opportunities. There is a daily $5 fee for Millcreek users paid when leaving the canyon. Mountain Bikes are only allowed on upper trails on even-numbered days.
There are two venues nestled in Millcreek Canyon that are suitable for an elopement, Millcreek Inn and Log Haven. The secluded landscape is full of whispering pines, crystalline streams, waterfalls, and wildflowers. Millcreek is an idyllic elopement destination.
