Red Butte Canyon is situated in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain Range. This area is protected by the U.S. Forest Service and contains a protected watershed. Although there is no public access to the designated Red Butte Canyon Research Natural Area, the public can still enjoy the public botanical garden, arboretum, and hiking trails. This location offers year-round access to view the exquisite fauna and flora. While in the area activities to participate in include:
● Visiting Red Butte Garden and Arboretum to view an impressive collection of botanicals or attend an event at the amphitheater operated by the University of Utah. Admission is $14 for adults and discounted for children, seniors, and the military. December through February include half-priced admission.
● Visiting the Natural History Museum of Utah to explore fossils, past and present cultures, insects, mammals, minerals, plants, invertebrates, or the current specialized exhibit. Admission is $19.95 for adults and discounted for children and seniors. View all admission costs.
● Visiting Utah’s Hogle Zoo is a great way to spend the day. In addition to viewing the animals, couples can attend the bird show and ride the carousel or the train. Their prices are higher during the summer season (May 1 through September 30) so be sure to check pricing before visiting.
● Other activities to attend while in the area include hiking, attending a college game, visiting local eateries, and biking.
The wedding venue located nearest Red Butte Canyon is the Red Butte Garden. However, the University Guest House & Conference Center located on the University of Utah has various options for the eloping couple including The Bandstand, The Post Chapel, and The Officers Club. Reservations must be made before using University of Utah wedding venues.
